This design was drawn for a site with unreliable grid power and no mains water, and it treats both as design problems rather than afterthoughts. Rammed earth walls give the house enough thermal mass to stay comfortable through the day without mechanical cooling.
A roof-mounted solar array with battery storage covers normal household demand, and the plant room is sized so a generator can be added later as backup if the owner wants one. Rainwater from the whole roof area feeds storage tanks and a filtration system.
The living spaces open onto a deep shaded terrace facing the prevailing breeze, and the bedrooms are placed on the cooler side of the plan.
